Critical issues/essential learnings

March:
  • We are all practicing with the narrative topic about being a dog for a day. Barb and Liz started by "getting into the topic" by doing a flower planner of different animal's traits and characteristics. They modeled, then had the kids brainstorm, plan, and present to the class. Stacey and Deb S. followed this lesson, asking the kids to act out one of the traits. Then, Stacey previewed the dog topic by showing a photostory of her dog before the kids did their planning and writing. At this point, Stacey and Deb are ready to conference individually with the kids, then have the kids meet in small groups with a rubric to give feedback to group members as each essay is read.
  • March assessment: Paper bag narrative. Kids will do this without much prompting the week of March 2nd.
  • We would like to meet with MaryEllen some time during the week of CSAP for our Hotlist meeting.
April:
  • Assessment: a short essay "tell about" after our visit from the mountain man. It will include three facts learned and details about each fact.
  • We hope to meet with Mary Ellen either the 23rd, 24th ( during road-mapping), or the 27th.
May:
  • Assessment: a persuasion essay. Possible topics could include a longer lunch break, uniforms, and Field Day.
  • We hope to meet sometime the week of the 18????
